Bend-optimized fibers - perfect solution for CWDM systems!



Most of CWDM systems suffer from macrobending problem. What is characteristic for optical fibers, is that the attenuation increase caused by the macrobending is higher for bigger wavelengths.

How to solve the problem and become resistant to macrobending issue? Use bend-optimized fibers! 

 

Cellco Communications offers G.657A1 and G.657B3 (EZ-Bend) fibers. To show the difference between them and standard G.652D SMF the tests were provided in Cellco's laboratory.

Cellco's CWDM 8 channel multiplexer was placed in Wavegate patch panel and connected with examined patchcords (G.652D, G.657A1 and B3) to optical spectrum analyser. Macrobending was simulated by making 4 and 6 turns on 9mm diameter.

Comparison of examined fibers (source: Cellco Labs). For G.652D the loss exceeds the power budget, transmission is lost. The performance of G.657A1 and G.657B3 is outstanding!
